Day 15: Moveable Houses and Great News on Guemes Island

Arriving by ferry to Guemes Island about 2 hours north of Seattle, the band enjoyed the ferry ride and classic rainy Northwest weather. They reported for duty to Anderson’s General Store where they met Nathan of Riot Act Media for the first time. He helped set up this show because he knows the proprietors Charlotte and David. He also doubled as a great sound man arriving with an impressive PA in tow.

The band kicked out a 3 hour set by playing every song they know with some additional solo material from Richard, Scott, and Brandon. The crowd was generous and attentive. Some CDs and t-shirts were sold. Some crab tacos were consumed, washed down with a few local pilsners.

During the set the band learned their Kickstarter campaign was successful! This resulted in much celebratory high-fiving in front of some perplexed islanders. Super duper big hugs and high-fives to all of our supporters. Thanks so much for your generosity. Well be sending out emails soon requesting info such as mailing addresses and t-shirt sizes etc. However, we are kinda disappointed Richard doesn’t have to get anyone’s name tattooed on his butt.

After the show Charlotte invited the band to crash at her house which turned out to be a beautiful 100 year old home that was saved from demolition by Charlotte’s father in 1981. Legend has it he bought it for $100 and had it transported by ferry from the mainland. That’s surprising because the house looks like it sprouted right out of the ground. It seemed as natural and at home as the ferns and pine trees.

Speaking of ferns and pines, the band took time for a short hike to the top of a mountain on the south side of the island which afforded them views of the San Juan Islands, the Cascades, and Victoria, Canada. But Scott stayed behind to gamble with Charlotte’s son Shaw, who turns out to be quite the shark when it comes to Star Wars Galactic Battle. He won all of Scott’s change plus his drum sticks. Scott did get some conciliatory beaded necklaces in return.

The band wrapped up their island adventure with brunch in Anacortes. Next up: a short jaunt to Seattle for a show at Rendevous.
